We've just launched a new, bespoke directory for the waste sector in the North East. http://www.wastedirectoryne.co.uk has been designed and built for the North East Recycling Forum.  We created a logo for them and, using shades of blue and green we have produced a powerful site for them to promote regional companies, events, legislation and more.  The site is currently b2b but will eventually be rolled out to a consumer audience to provide information about recycling.

We've gone web crazy.  Our latest e-commerce site is now live at http://www.baritea.co.uk and it's looking fabulous.  If you need any tea for Christmas, this is a great site to get top tasting tea.

We're also deep in the glorious phase of UAT for a new waste directory site for the region.  All will be unveiled soon.

05.08.14 - New Client for Crow

We're chuffed to bits to be working with Newcastle's YMCA on the design and production of its Annual Review.  The project will involve interviewing some of the charity's staff and service users, creating engaging copy to highlight the organisation's activities over the last five years, some new photography and of course the design and print.

YMCA approached us because of our track record working with charities and we're looking forward to getting to know them and their work.

We've just been appointed to design and build a directory site for a regional waste action group.  The site will mirror www.inc-ubator.co.uk and we will be able to use elements of that directory within the new site representing major cost savings for the client.

06.06.14 - Splash Crow

This week we have launched a huge campaign for our client, Percy Hedley Foundation.  The Splash Appeal aims to raise £1m in one year to build a new hydrotherapy pool for disabled children.  As well as radio and outdoor advertising, we had a fantastic launch in Newcastle with some wicked 3D artwork and Josef Craig MBE.  We gave away car stickers and seeds (just add water) and a leaflet explaining more about the Appeal.

The call to action is a combination of a micro-site built by the lovely Spriing (www.splashappeal.org.uk) which leads to the Just Giving online donation page and SMS donations (text SPLASH to 70500 to give £5).

We have kicked off the fundraising in style and will be implementing a comprehensive marcomms programme to help the charity hit its target.

It's all gone a bit academic here.  First we were asked to deliver a Google Analytics module on the Digital Marketing Institute Boot Camp course run by NESMA.  Then we were asked to deliver marketing workshops on behalf of the Chartered Institute of Marketing at the Mussel Club Show Your Mussel event.

All very cerebral.

The Crow has been flying to a new nest in Northumberland.  Our Northumberland office is now 7 Home Farm Cottages, Swarland, Northumberland, NE65 9JH.  Our new phone number there is 01670 783995.  Otherwise all emails, mobiles and our Newcastle office are unchanged.

15.01.14 - More Challenging Crow

Last year we implemented a successful campaign for our client Percy Hedley Foundation, Challenge 500. It raised £50k for the charity so....we're doing it again.  The premise is the same - any company can sign up, get a £500 seed fund and then has six months to make the money grow.  This time we've got The Journal on board as media partner and we're using a combination of direct marketing, PR and social media to market the Challenge.

The Journal's launch article is here http://www.thejournal.co.uk/business/business-news/north-east-businesses-urged-support-6508042

We've just completed a fantastic project for the Percy Hedley Foundation.  Challenge 500 started back in January.  We developed a brand for the project then rolled it out in the region.  We then gave 13 local businesses £500 and six months to raise money for the Foundation.  At the end of the project they had to give back the original stake and whatever they raised.  Between them, the 13 companies raised £49,000, a great result for the charity.

Click to collapse this section

We're heading to the bar to celebrate because we've been lucky enough to work with some fantastic new clients over the last couple of months.  We've been busy scribbling copy for websites for Howard Russell Construction and for Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland.  We've also been doing some exciting (but secret squirrel) work with a consortium of charities in Northumberland who have won government funding to explore working with offenders. And last but not least, we've been advising Big Local App Northumberland on strategic marketing.  Now where's that drink....

06.06.13 - Crow's New Wing
Click to collapse this section

Along with opening our office in Newcastle at Toffee Factory we decided that would be a good time (because we weren't busy or stressed) to set up a new arm (wing?) of the company.  Indigo Crow Consultancy is specifically for third sector clients and means we can deliver our (not inconsiderable even though we say so ourselves) expertise in that area more cost-effectively.

We're already working with three clients on the consultancy side and we're pretty busy on the creative side too.  And we're loving our new home at Toffee Factory.  Sweet.

Exciting times for the Crow, we're opening a new office.  We'll still have our base in Northumberland because we've got lots of lovely clients up this way.  But we're also taking an office in the Toffee Factory in the big smoke (no, not London, our big smoke, Newcastle).  The Toffee Factory is an amazing and downright funky place - here, see for yourself http://www.toffeefactory.co.uk/ and we're pretty excited to get right back into the creative hub of Newcastle.  Come and have a coffee if you're down near the Ouseburn or Quayside.

Well here we are in February and not a moment to spare to update our site. We will be punishing ourselves later, rest assured. Why no updates? Well at the Crow's Nest we've been busy being strategic.  We're working with the Percy Hedley Foundation, a great local charity, on their marketing for the coming year.  There's Challenge 500, a great project for businesses to get involved in; a year of celebrations for their Diamond Jubilee; and tackling the tricky subject of regular giving.  Find out more about Percy Hedley here www.percyhedley.org.uk

The end of the year always brings a flurry of deadlines which we love here.  Keeps us busy.  We'll be unveiling our Crow Christmas card next week and we've just sent the VH Bio calendar to print.   We're putting the finishing touches to an innovative new promotion for the Percy Hedley Foundation and we're working on their Regular Giving strategy.

25.10.12 - New Work for the Crow
Click to collapse this section

It's been a busy time here in the crow's nest.  We're working with Veil, a cosmetics company that specialises in camouflage cream, partnering on the project with old friends BIM Creative.  We're also working with the Secret Kingdon on.....a secret project.

Nice to see a couple of our clients, Bari Tea and Smile for Life, have been recognised in the Women Into the Networks Awards this year (and we did all the design and print work for the Awards so it's a triple whammy).

As well as Smile for Life, a brilliant charity in Gosforth, we're also doing some consultancy work with the Percy Hedley Foundation, one of the region's biggest charities.  They've got some exciting initiatives coming up.

And last, but not least, we're now working with NCFE helping them to organise the many events they put on around the country.

Like we said, busy, busy times.

Late last year we designed and printed a direct mail piece that was a little on the quirky side.  News from the client is that the mailer has paid for itself many times over.  Proof that direct mail and old school marketing still has a place in the marketing mix.

Our good friends over at amhworkspace asked us to pen the words for their brand new website www.amhworkspace.com. It's now live and it's looking pretty swanky.  Makes us want to rush out and get comfy chairs, mood lighting and anti-glare blinds for the crow's nest.

As a favour to our friends at Tyneside Rape Crisis Centre we've put together a flyer to promote their benefit event in September.  They've only managed to get Jo Brand and Sarah Millican to do a gig on their behalf!  We were happy to lend a hand and help them to promote it.

19.04.12 - The Crow and the Mugs
Click to collapse this section

Did you know there's a world shortage of mugs?  Neither did we until we started sourcing some for VH Bio who sponsor a trade conference every year and needed a few hundred branded mugs to take with them.  Apparently it's something to do with some Jubilee.  And some big sporting thing.  Problem eventually solved after trawling though suppliers but anyone thinking of getting branded promo goods, beware.

09.02.12 - Copy Crow
Click to collapse this section

This year has mostly been about copy, copy and more copy.  We've been working with The Writer in London, providing them with copy for the National Apprenticeship Service.  And we have been writing copy for our new online business directory, www.inc-ubator.co.uk, due to launch soon.

But writing copy from the Crow's Nest is a not like hard work at all.  With a view over our wild Northumbrian garden, the scribbling and musing is interrupted by sightings of deer, heron, woodpeckers and sometimes the dog chasing a pheasant. Inspiring.

03.01.12 - New Year, New Clients

We're really chuffed to have been working with Tyneside Rape Crisis Centre, helping them to promote their helpline.  We designed some posters, credit card sized promo hand outs and stickers that will be distributed round Tyneside and Northumberland.  We also revamped the Grace logo to make it cleaner and easier for the client to use.

We've just created a very fishy mailer for Nationwide Claims Solutions.  They wanted to send a direct mail highlighting their USP, strength in numbers.  The mailer's offset fold meant we could show a lone fish on the front, but when the mailer is opened, the single fish is part of a much bigger beastie.  Quirky.

With two calendars in the studio we reckon it's that time of year again.  VH Bio's calendar has some fantastic images of the North East thanks to Graeme Peacock.  Percy Hedley's images are surprising - lots of amazing wildlife shots taken in the heart of the city on their Northern Counties College campus in Jesmond.

Alnwick finally has a tea room worth making a journey for - Bari Tea.  And Bari Tea has a brand new 'newspaper' style menu thanks to Indigo Crow.  Maitre 't and Bari Tea owner Caroline is pretty chuffed with the new menu which features handy hints on how to make a good cup of tea (never boil the kettle twice, who knew?), a dictionary of Northumbrian words and, of course, the gorgeous food and drink offered by this bari (means beautiful, lovely ) new watering hole.

At Indigo Crow we're very careful not to alienate any of our clients (or indeed potential clients) by aligning ourselves with a particular football team.  Having said that we are a bit excited about working with Super Mac, the legendary Newcastle United player Malcolm Macdonald.

Super Mac is hosting an event for ESCAPE Family Support, one of our clients, and we are producing all the promotional materials to support the night.  With an auction from Malcolm's personal collection and a pie and peas supper, what more could you ask for?

Hot of the press, the Percy Hedley Annual Review has just been delivered to a happy client.  It's a fantastic review of the people involved in this charity and is full of inspirational stories.  Designed around the theme 'just think what's possible', the tales of courage and determination are amazing.

Not only have we designed and printed the brochure, we've arranged for this interactive PDF version.  Check it out and see this fabulous publication for yourself.

22.06.11 - The Crow WINS

We've been working with Women Into the Network to rebrand and launch their annual Awards.  The Awards are designed to reward the most successful, entrepreneurial women in the region. This year the ceremony will be held on 11/11/11, a slightly spooky date but one that got our designer thinking.  So this year's theme is 'The Power of One', reflecting the fact that women can be a bit reluctant to push themselves into the limelight but that they have the power to succeed within them and by putting themselves forward for an Award, this success can be recognised.

18.05.11 - Crow at the SWAN Floatation
Click to collapse this section

You could never accuse PR of being dull.  The Crow spent the afternoon watching a giant swan being launched onto the River Wansbeck.  Bizarre?  Yes.  But there is a story behind it.  The Crow's client, Support for Women Around Northumberland (SWAN), was celebrating a successful year and the news that they have been awarded funding for a further year.  The project helps women offenders or women at risk in the county; a group of women who have been helped by SWAN had worked together to create a giant Swan made from recycled and found materials.  After a successful floatation, watched by an invited audience and some bemused swans who normally have the river to themselves, the swan was brought back onto dry land and will now be donated to a local school or charity.

Photo above was taken by David from Picture Farm.  Photo below was taken by Sharon Spurling, Deputy CEO of ESCAPE Family Support after patiently waiting for the real swan to paddle into shot. Good work!

At the end of a very hectic week we can all sit back and enjoy a cold beer surveying a job well done.  We've just had sign off on a client's radio ad which will air on Bristol's Jack FM next week.  We've also just put the finishing touches to a client's new event booking website and pushed the button to make it go live.  And the icing on the cake was the delivery of another client's promotional items - branded lip salves for the Support for Women Around Northumberland (SWAN) team to hand out.  No two days are the same!

Indigo Crow has, with help of illustrator Graeme Hogg, produced two cartoon banners for SWAN (Support for Women Around Northumberland).  Funded by the Ministry of Justice, this project helps women in the county who are ex-offenders, at risk, victims of domestic violence or substance mis-users.  The banners were designed to help the team illustrate that the women they offer help and support to aren't always the ones you might perceive to be in need.  Appearances can be deceptive!
